I’m a big believer in routines, especially when it comes to how I start my day. Now, I know the title might sound a little dramatic, and I’ll admit—this shot I take every morning does give me that same warm, comforting feeling as the shot you’re probably thinking of. But let’s get one thing straight: it’s not what you think.
The first thing I drink every morning is (and will always be) water. Same goes for you, girly—your digestive tract deserves better than being woken up with nothing… or worse, coffee. I know, I know, but hear me out. Coffee right after waking up is like slamming the gas pedal seconds after starting the engine. It’s best saved for later—after your body has gone through some fancy biochemical processes and is actually ready to enjoy it. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that cup of coffee should wait at least 60 minutes post waking.
Once I’ve had my water and given my digestion a little kickstart, it’s time for the main event: my morning shot. Call it an immune booster, anti-inflammatory elixir, or just plain “gross,” I don’t care. I call it my shot because it’s short, effective, and wakes me up just the same. I make about 32 ounces at a time, which lasts me three to four weeks. It’s simple to make, but let me warn you—if you have a juicer, you’ll want to break it out for this one. If you’re blender-only (like me), it takes a little more elbow grease, but I swear it’s worth it.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 oranges
- 2 lemons
- A palmful of ginger root
- 2 cloves of garlic
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper powder
- ½ tsp salt
- A dash of black pepper
- A dash of cream of tartar
- Water
To make it:
Roughly chop your fruits and roots, then toss everything into your juicer or blender with a bit of water. If you’re blending, you’ll need more water to thin it out. If you’re juicing, you can use less. You want to end up with about a quart of juice. For my blender people, you’ll need something like a sieve, cheesecloth, or French press to help you drain the liquid from the solids, this is where it becomes more time consuming and why I advise using the juicer if you have it. But once you get all the liquid you can from it just stir in the dry ingredients, shake it up, and store it in the fridge.
Now let’s break down why I use these specific ingredients:
- The oranges are rich in vitamin C (for immunity and inflammation) and antioxidants (to reduce oxidative stress). Plus, they make the shot taste better and add hydration.
- The lemons are high in vitamin C, support skin and immune health, and help detox your liver while balancing your body’s pH.
- The ginger root is a powerful anti-inflammatory that supports digestion by easing nausea and bloating. It also improves circulation and can boost heart health.
- The garlic is an immune-boosting superstar with antibacterial properties. It reduces inflammation and promotes heart health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.
- The turmeric powder contains curcumin, which is one of the most potent natural anti-inflammatories. It supports joint and brain health while aiding digestion.
- The cayenne pepper powder contains capsaicin, which boosts metabolism, reduces pain and inflammation, and clears congestion. Bonus: it’ll wake you up real quick.
- The salt helps maintain electrolyte balance, supports hydration, and keeps your adrenal function in check (so you actually have energy).
- The black pepper makes the turmeric way more effective by enhancing curcumin absorption by up to 2000%. It also stimulates digestive enzymes to help with gut health.
- The cream of tartar is loaded with potassium, which helps reduce muscle cramps and supports hydration. It also acts as a natural detoxifier.
- The water hydrates you, supports digestion, and ensures all those nutrients get delivered where they need to go.
I take about 1–1.5 ounces of this shot every morning on an empty stomach and let it settle for at least 10 minutes before I finally have my coffee.
If you try it, I hope it leaves you feeling more energized and refreshed, helping you stay healthy and ready to take on the day. Questions? Want to know more? Email me at support@aplombtraining.com or book a consultation!
